California Digital Arts Workshop
On November 16th, the American Film Institute will launch its second annual California Digital Arts Workshop for professional visual artists working in the non-profit sector who are making the transition to digital production technology and delivery platforms.
AFI has named multimedia pioneer John Sanborn as creative director of the workshop. Sanborn is a video artist and director who has been making ground breaking media works since 1978. He has directed over one hundred music-videos, commercials, and television programs, as well as having created innovative interactive works. He has shown his video art at every major museum in the world, including the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Beaubourg, and the ICA, London.
Participants will take part in an "immersion experience," working collaboratively in AFI's world-class new media labs with AFI's professional staff and visiting faculty.
The workshop has been funded by the California Arts Council with additional funding from the Intel Corporation. There is no tuition fee for the workshop. Works from last year's participants are posted for viewing on the American Film Institute's website, http://www.afionline.org. For more information, connect to the AFI website or call 323-856-7628. Artists must live or work in the state of California.
