COMPUTERS FOR SCHOOLS in DC and NJ
Greetings,
I am appealing to you on behalf of several schools in the District
of Columbia and one school system in New Jersey in impoverished areas that
are in desperate need of computer equipment.
Newer Equipment:
Newer equipment is the most desired by the schools. Under the Tax Relief
Act, any "C" corporation can donate equipment to schools that is two years
old and deduct the purchase price plus 1/2 the current value from their
taxes. This is part of the White House initiatives to get more technology
into the schools. The newer equipment can only be donated to schools in
order to take advantage of the tax break.
Older Equipment:
At Takoma Educational Center in northwest DC, we have a program that
6th, 7th, and 8th graders rehab and upgrade the equipment depending on
the condition of the equipment we receive. This year a group of 6th and
7th graders rebuilt over a dozen PCs under the guidance of Jay and Cleopatra
White. For upgrading and rehabilitation purposes, PC 386's or better, 500
meg or larger hard drives, network board-cables-connectors, mice, monitors
and printers are needed.
Points of Contact:
If you have any equipment to donate, please get in touch with me (mailto:lb170@umail.umd.edu)
or Jay White (mailto:whitej@apcorp.com)
We will get letters from the schools to document their request for
donations and can coordinate the pickup of any equipment you desire to
donate. If you need more information on the tax relief act, I have a copy
of a white paper explaining it.
Thanks.
Peace&blessings,
