AFRICAN AMERICAN MALE INVOLVEMENT RESEARCH PROJECT
http://www.blackpgs.com/spectrum.html

The Spectrum Consulting Associates, Inc. and the Southern Education Foundation have received a research grant from the Ford Foundation to identify positive and constructive activities of African American males in urban communities.

Spectrum is a minority-owned management and financial consulting firm with expertise in the area of research and analysis, due diligence, market research and policy development. The Southern Education Foundation was created in 1937 when four funds committed to improving education in the south were incorporated to form a single philanthropic entity. The Southern Education Foundation has played an instrumental role in the establishment of public kindergarten in the South, in promoting minority participation in higher education; in supporting black teachers; and, in setting a public policy agenda for education reform in the South.

Black men are not perceived as productive elements in society, and in too many cases, they are not presented as productive members of family households. Negative images of African American males are constantly
reinforced, and little to no information is known about the number of African American males positively involved in activities, projects and organizations which are working to improve the quality of life in urban communities.

Research will be conducted through both personal on-site interviews and a telephone survey to identify and encourage positive contributions of African American males.

The target cities for our research are as follows:
Washington, DC
Baltimore, MD
Richmond, VA
Philadelphia, PA
New York, NY
Chicago, IL
Detroit, MI
Houston, TX
Los Angeles, CA
Oakland, CA
San Francisco, CA

Kindly take a minute to help in this worthwhile endeavor. Go to http://www.blackpgs.com/spectrum.html to find out more about the study and to submit names of persons to be included.

Please pass this on. If we don't tell our story, others will.
