JULY EVENTS AT THE CULTURAL CAFE

The Cultural Cafe is full of spirit and  creativity! Plan now to attend the weekend of activities!

Friday, July 10
The Cultural Cafe and The Sat Ra Society, Inc. are sponsoring “Meditation for the City.” The guided meditation begins at 6 pm.  The Sat Ra Society (from the Khemetan word meaning “Daughters of Light” or  “Enlightenment) is committed to the development and implementation of  services which facilitate personal development and optimal life functioning.

Sat Ra offers a Rites of Passage program for adolescents and adult females. Sat Ra also provides retreats, workshops, healing lodges and consultations as a means of providing comprehensive service delivery. (Love Donation)

Also Friday, July 10, A Celebration of the The Spoken Word begins at 9 pm at the Cultural Cafe’s Poetry Slam. Participating poets include First Fruits and Mwili Askari. Open mic follows! Donation: $7. For tickets for this event, call (202) 726-4597. mailto:LA460@aol.com

Saturday, July 11
The Malcolm X Drummers and Dancers present a SUMMER DRUM FEST featuring the DC based poetry ensemble, Collective Voices. Also featured are Master Drummers Baba Ngoma and Barnett Williams; Reggae Vocalist Extraordinaire Cheikh Diop; and Guest Drummers Mamadi Nyasuma, Frank Lloyd, Yacub, Butch Jackson, Ecendra Das and Isaac Aviasogie. African Dancers include Ayana Nataki, Zalika Perkins, Agnes Obi, James Earnest, Donald Dongo and Lona Alias. The Amazing Pinto who eats fire and walks on glass will also be performing.
