CIVIL WAR MEMORIAL UNVEILING
http://www.con2.com/~prblack/

Did you know that there were over 230,000 Black participants in the Civil War? This information was not made available to my generation when we were in elementary and high schools.

On July 15th through July 18th, 1998, there will be a series of activities commemorating the unveiling of the Civil War Monument in Washington, D.C. As a Civil War Reenactor with Company B, 54th Mass Regiment, I am very proud to take part in this momentous event. These activities are a great time to teach your children and to learn yourself about what part the United States Colored Troops (USCT) played in the Civil War. Briefly stated, activities include:

Wednesday, July 15th a symposium for descendants, Thursday, July 16th, a sunrise tribute to the USCT at Arlington Cemetery, Friday, Jul 17th, A Symposium at Howard University, Ford's Theater Ceremony, A Freedom Ball- Gala Reception Saturday, Jul 18th - A Civil War Reenactors' March along Georgia Avenue,
The Unveiling of the Spirit of Freedom Civil War Memorial.
